- In collaboration with Global ARC City Heights Youth for Change, the community is advocating for more language services in the San Diego Unified School District.
- In 2010, SBCSD Board Member Famo Musa co-founded City Heights Youth for Change, and has virtual exhibit this year called “Fragments of Memories.” Read KPBS’s coverage of the exhibit to learn more about the collaborative project, which had a virtual showcase in November.
- In September 2020, Somali Bantu Community of San Diego was part of the COVID-19 Refugee Community Impact Report in collaboration with partner Ethnic-Community Based Organizations (ECBOs) and San Diego Refugee Communities Coalition hosted at UC San Diego’s Refugee Health Unit, which is a part of the UC San Diego Center for Community Health.
- In November 2020, we welcomed new community health workers to the SBCSD team to assist with rental assistance, COVID-19 health education, employment services and unemployment application support for community members, and other resources. These forms of assistance have persisted into 2021.
